Chicurel-Stein, and Heather Hitchcock as they share their expertise in applying vocal anatomy and physiology to performance and teaching practices in a three-day intensive for vocal artists and teachers at Capital University in Columbus, OH!

Meet our instructors...

Kerrie Obert is a Speech Language Pathologist and Clinical Voice Specialist with over 20 years' experience in teaching voice. Ms. Obert holds degrees in both speech language pathology and musical theatre performance from Mars Hill University and The Ohio State University. She worked for nearly 20 years at The Ohio State University where she performed thousands of endoscopic exams and treated singers who had vocal damage. During her time at OSU, she engaged in clinical research and co-wrote the singing health curriculum.

Ms. Obert is certified to teach the Estill Voice Training Method and has been a member of their certification advisory board several terms. Ms. Obert is currently on the board of advisors for the Voice & Speech Review Journal. Ms. Obert has presented her research and workshops internationally including Japan, Australia, Netherlands, England, and Canada.

She has written books on voice and is currently writing an exercise book for opera. Ms. Obert is currently on the faculties of both The Ohio State University and Capital University. She is the Executive Principal of her own online company, Get Vocal Now!

Steven R. Chicurel-Stein, D.M.A. is a Professor at the School of Performing Arts at the University of Central Florida.  He has earned multiple degrees from Mars Hill College, The Peabody Conservatory of Music/Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Kentucky.  

Trained as a concert pianist, "Doctor Steve" has chosen to make his career in musical theatre.  He has participated in nearly 100 theatrical productions as musical director, conductor, pianist, and vocal arranger, and has performed in 12 countries across 4 continents.  Dr. Chicurel-Stein is proud to be a vanguard licensee, Estill Master Trainer, and Estill Course Instructor of the Estill Voice Training System, bringing the Estill model to the UCF musical theatre curriculum as well as to professional voice users worldwide.  

He was the 2013 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Estill Voice International, and has co-authored multiple books on the topics of vocal anatomy and music theory as well as contributed to various publications.

Heather Hitchcock is a vocal coach based in the greater Columbus, OH area specializing in Contemporary Commercial Music (including musical theater, pop, country, and worship).  Ms. Hitchcock studied at Taylor University and is an Estill Master Trainer with Estill Voice International.

 In addition to teaching in her private studio, One Voice Studios, Heather travels throughout North America providing vocal training at national worship conferences as well as workshops for individual church worship teams.  Ms. Hitchcock also provides coaching for live recordings and studio sessions for touring artists.  She is a guest lecturer for high school and university music programs and a vocal coach and musical director musical director for local theater companies in Ohio.  

With over 12 years of private and group teaching experience and 30 years of professional singing experience , Heather desires to empower vocalists with artistic versatility, performance confidence, and superior craftsmanship through healthy vocal technique in effort to create and deliver a dynamic performance unlike any other.
